We have now worked through goal setting and some long term planning. We have completed the handouts: SMART goals and Learning goals. These handouts are available throught the Handouts link.

You also have completed your Time Clock handout to be handed in.

***You need to have your posters completed for Thursday, October 25. We will try and have them printed for next week.***

You will have completed:

• Career Crusing assessment
• Skills assessment
• Research assignment handout

When you have completed the Research Handout you will take the information you discovered about your occupation and create a poster.

You will use MS Publisher to create the poster
the poster will be 12x18 or 18x12
You need to include:

• A title
• Images & information for each area you researched
• You need to use copyright free images (http://search.creativecommons.org/)
• You need to cite the url for each image you use
• You will copy and paste your urls to a Word document and print it and glue it to the back of your poster
• You need to remember to keep your poster visually effective. Something others would want to look at.

Take Our Kids to Work

On Wednesday, November 7, 2012 hundreds of thousands of grade 9 students from across the country will be participating in “Take Our Kids to Work.”  They will be spending the day in the work force to gain a better understanding of what it means to go to work.

Remember you need to have your consent forms back to school by Thursday, November 1.

History of an Occupation

History of an occupation

Choose an occupation, something that you are interested in.  Find out how it has changed over the years. Break the occupation into decades or time periods so you can find out what it was like to be in the occupation during those years. Then look at the changes.

Include the following information:

How is it different today then when it originated...

Why did it originate? What was the need?

You can look at these areas:
§  Education needed

§  Hours of work

§  Wage

§  Skills needed
ex. Technology

§  Number of jobs available

§  Workplace changes- ex. small-large business

§  Occupation health and safety changes

§  Age of those in the industry

§  Answer what do you think are the most positive and the most negative changes to the industry


This assignment will be completed in a PowerPoint presentation and presented to the class on Tuesday, December 13.


Your PowerPoint needs to include:
1. titles for each section
2. appropriate amount of text on each page/text can be read from the back of the classroom
3. related images
4. transitions between slide are included.

Grade 9 Volunteer Opportunities at School and Grade 9 Volunteer Opprotunities in
